Gauges of cardboard boxes
Mon 06 Feb 2012
Cardboard is a very versatile commodity and cardboard boxes are manufactured in various gauges for different purposes.  Before purchasing your cardboard boxes you will need to establish what they are to be used for, as there are several types of bespoke boxes on the market which are designed for carrying animals, as packaging for fragile items, and a variety of designs of cardboard boxes for shipping and mailing cardboard boxes.   With the growth of internet shopping, the range of shipping and mailing cardboard boxes are particularly useful to mail order companies and other organisations which send goods through the post.  It is important that the goods arrive intact and undamaged, so by packing them in a cardboard box with supplementary packing materials if necessary, will help to ensure that the goods are received safely.

Heavy duty robust removal boxes and house moving boxes are made for strength to protect your precious belongings when you move home.   Parcel boxes used for packing when sending items in the post can vary in thickness depending on the fragility of the item you are sending.  The cardboard need not be as sturdy when sending a book as when sending glassware or crockery, and bespoke boxes can be purchased for both purposes.  Glassware such as wine glasses and tumblers can be wrapped in newspaper before being placed in a heavy duty cardboard box.  Alternatively bespoke boxes are available which have special compartments to prevent the glasses from touching and potentially breaking.  Bottle boxes are also be made of heavy duty cardboard to protect the contents and custom boxes have divisions into which the bottles can be slotted.

Cardboard Storage boxes used for archiving files tend to be made of heavy duty cardboard and have handles so that they can be moved easily.  Archives are often paper files and heavy, so the storage boxes must be robust enough to withstand the weight when they are lifted or moved around.  If lighter gauge cardboard boxes are used, they may not be suitable for the purpose.

Lighter gauge cardboard boxes can be used for packing clothes or other items which do not weigh very much but need to be protected and kept together for either storage or moving around.  When moving house, you will need a variety of sizes of cardboard boxes and these can include bespoke boxes for storing hanging garments so that they do not get creased in the move.

Gift boxes can be made of any gauge of cardboard depending on what they are to be used for.  Triangle gift or pyramid gift boxes which are to be delivered by hand tend to be of a lighter gauge than cardboard boxes used to protect gifts to be sent through the post.

The type and gauge of cardboard boxes you buy will depend on what you will use them for and the contents to be packed in the boxes.  Fragile items will need heavier duty cardboard boxes for protection and lighter gauge cardboard boxes can be used for a variety of other purposes.
